Predator trapping
kiwi recovery
community outreach
Thames Coast Kiwi Care was formed in 2006 when a call listening survey found there to be only an estimated 28 birds left in Te Mata. Over 14 years
kiwi numbers have quadrupled due to regular predator trapping by our volunteer trappers and Operation Nest Egg programme. We also have kiwi on Motutapu Island that will contribute to a wider genetic-diversity programme for the Coromandel Brown Kiwi.
We welcome new volunteers!

SPCA’s Thames Centre has been helping animals
in the local community for more than 50 years.
We have a fabulous facility in Thames and our area covers
the Coromandel Peninsula and Hauraki Plains.
We look after 200-300 animals per year and are well supported by a dedicated volunteer network who care for the animals at the centre
and also foster animals when needed.
We also visit schools and speak at local community groups to help educate the public and keep them informed about our work.
